Lost or broken AirPods case? Buy the charging case on its own

Your AirPods are still there, but the charging case is gone or no longer charges? Without the case, you can’t charge your AirPods. But you still don’t need a new pair: the charging case is available on its own.

1. Search for the charging case

Open the Find My app on your iPhone and tap “Devices”. With AirPods Pro 2, AirPods Pro 3 and AirPods 4 with ANC, you can also locate the charging case and play a sound on it. With older models, Find My only finds the AirPods, not the case on its own.

2. Find the right charging case

The charging case has to match your AirPods. The model number is printed in small letters on each AirPod. On your iPhone, you’ll find it in Settings under your AirPods. We sell these charging cases individually:

With AirPods Pro 2, the number on the AirPod is what counts: A2698 and A2699 belong to the Lightning case, A3047 and A3048 to the USB-C case. With AirPods 4, A3053 and A3054 belong to the case without ANC, A3056 and A3057 to the case with ANC. 3. Connect the new charging case

A new charging case has to be paired once with your AirPods. Put both AirPods in it, charge the case for a while, then follow the steps in our guide Pair AirPods.

Charging case no longer charging?

Before you buy a new one, try the following:

  • Use a different cable and a different power adapter, and charge the case for a while.
  • Carefully clean the port and the contacts inside the case with a dry, lint-free cloth. Don’t use any liquid or sharp objects.
  • Reset your AirPods and connect them again, as described in the guide Pair AirPods.
  • If the status light doesn’t light up at all or the case still won’t charge, it’s probably faulty. In that case, a new charging case will help.

Can I buy just the charging case without AirPods?

Yes. The charging case is available on its own, without AirPods.

Will a new charging case work with my old AirPods?

Yes, as long as it belongs to the same model. Once paired, your AirPods will work just as before.

Can I use my AirPods without the case?

AirPods that are already paired also work without the case, as long as the battery lasts. To charge them, though, you need the charging case.
